23 Capital announced today the appointment of Jack MacDonald as the Head of Music and Entertainment Origination for the UK.

Jack joins 23 Capital’s global team of music and entertainment specialists who work closely with artists and their managers, song writers, music publishers and record labels to deliver innovative finance solutions, supporting creativity and flexibility.

Since inception in 2014, 23 Capital has deployed and advised on over $2.55bn of transactions. This has included debt financing the acquisition of music catalogues, funding an online digital rights platform; brand license exploitation and the financing for a VIP ticketing platform.

Jack joins 23 Capital from Credit Suisse where he was a Director running the Sports, Media and Entertainment desk for the UK private bank. During his tenure at Credit Suisse he increased the banks capability and appetite across these sectors and worked closely with global clients on innovative funding solutions.

Prior to working at Credit Suisse, Jack spent 3 years at Goldman Sachs in Sydney and 4 years at RBC Wealth Management in London where he highlighted the demand from individuals and companies in the music industry for bespoke capital solutions and developed and launched the Intellectual Lending platform for the bank.

23 Capital has committed and partnership capital of over $2bn to invest across the SM&E sectors. It lends across multiple asset classes including highly visible and predictable IP cash flows including broadcasting rights, music royalties, licensing agreements and sponsorship, as well as traditional cash flow and project financings for SM&E clients globally.

23 built its business through a deep sector expertise in the European football space. They are now Europe’s largest football cross-border lender and are looking to extend that dominance into the music and entertainment sectors.

Stephen Duval co-founder of 23 Capital comments, “The digital revolution is transforming the music and entertainment industries and our clients require specialist knowledge of how this impacts their business needs. It’s a pleasure to welcome Jack MacDonald to the 23 Capital team. Jack brings essential insight and a deep understanding of the music and entertainment industries, helping 23 Capital to maximize the opportunities presented by the growth in the music, content and licensing sectors.”

Jack MacDonald, Head of Music and Entertainment Origination UK at 23 Capital comments, “Historically, music, entertainment and intellectual property finance solutions have taken a ‘square peg round hole’ approach, whilst 23 Capital works with clients to deliver solutions which meet the unique needs of business and individuals in this space. It’s refreshing to join a growing company that combines deep individual expertise and experience with a firm team spirit and I’m tremendously excited to be on board.”

In late 2017, 23 Capital brought on two significant equity partners and transactional capital providers in Quantum Partners LP, a private investment fund managed by Soros Fund Management LLC (and its affiliates) and Corrum Capital alongside our founding shareholders.
